I rescued this bowl from an antique booth where it was being used as a pillar candle holder for a display. Knocked my socks right off. I thought someone had spray painted a Colonial Mat Green piece blue, but it turns out to be a very original satin mat blue with examples listed in the 1920 Brush catalog, sheet W. I found the glaze in Huxford 1978, page 184. The bowl itself is a commonly seen shape (marked 01) found in many of the beautiful art lines of this era. 2.25 inches tall and 4.25 inches across the rim. Notice what looks like shimmering gold paint on the rim and inside the bowl. I almost removed it, but it was such a battle scar of her survival, that I decided to leave it for her future rescue home to decide. I try not to say "rare" but I have seen very few pieces of midnight colored Mat blue Brush Pottery. Heavy bowl, heavily glazed with no chips, flakes, or fissures other than the usual production imperfections.
