FROG gear was developed in 2006 and was officially adopted in 2007 in response to increased burn and fire hazards that Marines faced from IED threats in Iraq and Afghanistan. The FROG gear came in the form of a new combat shirt, pants, base layers, gloves and even a balaclava ensuring regardless of conditions Marines would be safer from burn threats. An interesting and lesser-known fact about FROG gear is that the combat shirt and pants were developed with assistance from Crye Precision.
