Antique Vargas Wax African-American Farmer’s Market Doll

Antique Vargas wax African-American farmers market doll. Measure 7 inches tall. Base is 3.5 inches in diameter. In good vintage condition. She is carrying a basket of vegetables and holding out a tomato. She is wearing a gingham apron, floral blouse and striped skirt. She has gold hoop earrings.There is a partial sticker on the bottom and inscribed their name and a date into the wax underside.Some of the earliest wax dolls for collectors were made by the Vargas family of New Orleans in the 1920s. The figures represent African-American farmers and tradespeople.Disclaimer: she is missing part of a finger on the tomato hand and the lettuce leaf in the basket has been partially broken.From smoke free home.
